I love this description of heaven!
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”
Revelation 7:9-12 NIV
In heaven the total focus is on the presence of God.
It’s not a once in a while focus, it is a constant focus.
Jesus taught us to pray:
“your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10 NIV
Jesus is praying for God’s presence to come on earth as it is in heaven.
David said:
“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalms 23:6 NIV
David is saying that he will live in the presence of God everyday.
Yes, here on earth we can live in the presence of God forever.
One day everyone alive in Jesus Christ will transfer from their earthly home to their heavenly home — where the total focus is going to be on God’s presence forever.
Today – God’s presence.
Tomorrow – God’s presence.
Next day – God’s presence.
Does that make you comfortable?
If we’re honest, some Christians would say that sounds boring.
Are you waiting until you get to heaven to get comfortable with the presence of God?
If so, don’t.
The only people truly looking forward to heaven are those who are already comfortable being totally focused on God’s presence today here on earth.
Are you comfortable being in God’s presence? Does the thought of you being in God’s presence intimidate you or excite you?
Hopefully, it excites you!
Eternity is a loooooooong time to be uncomfortable in God’s presence.
Many people have taken Jesus only for salvation, been forgiven for their sins, and are on their way to heaven. If they were taken out into eternity tonight they would be totally uncomfortable having to totally focus on God’s presence.
In my book, Get To The Point, I said that God’s whole point from Genesis to Revelation is you in God’s presence and God’s presence in you.
Now is the time to get comfortable being in the presence of God.
Every guidance and provision you will ever need can be found today in God’s presence.
Don’t wait until you get to heaven to get comfortable being in the presence of God.
Actually, with Covid, a global pandemic, constant natural disasters, historic rise in gun violence, and a world full of other challenges how does anyone survive without living in God’s presence?
If you haven’t realized it yet, we desperately need God’s presence day by day. Thank God for his indescribable gift.
If you haven’t yet I encourage you to read, Get To The Point. Get comfortable living in God’s presence today.
